Inspire Kids students have been enjoying Movement Day, an activity planned by our Physical Therapy Department in collaboration with our Day Hab Without Walls participants. Physical Therapist Assistants, Jamie Jarvis and Hanauni Champion, met with each classroom for 30 minutes last week. The purpose of the class is to work on gross motor skills with the students. The class begins with stretches lead by our Day Hab participants. Students then participate in activities such as “animal walks” which work on core strength, “stand & squats” on rocker boards which work on balance, and scooter activities which work on upper and lower extremity strength. The classroom staff is also using this activity as a training for movement activities that can be done in the classroom. The Speech and Occupational Therapy Departments also join the activity at times to work on therapy goals. Students make color choices, match colors and identify letters. This collaboration has also been a great experience for the young adults in our Day Hab program. “It was Martha’s idea to do stretches in the beginning, she came up with the exercises” said Jamie Jarvis, PTA. Judi Calkin, DSP, has noticed that there has been an increase in personality and participation in the young adults. They look forward to attending this class because of the interaction with the preschoolers, which can be delightful for some of the young adults who otherwise have minimal interaction with children. The children and young adults exchanged high fives and presented the Day Hab group with Certificates of Appreciation for all their help with this wonderful collaboration. ...

Testimonials

“I am grateful for the care and expertise that [the staff at Inspire] have put forth while addressing my mom’s varied needs.  I commend their ability to be accommodating and flexible while dealing with my elderly mom, who requires some special efforts to help her understand her treatment and what is necessary to achieve a desired outcome.  [The staff at Inspire] have been hardworking and knowledgeable as we proceed through mom’s aging and the journey of her care.  I appreciate what Inspire provides and the professionalism of [its staff].”   David O., 2014

“I remember [Inspire] and all the work Inspire Kids put into helping my son and I am forever grateful to you for that.  I remember choosing [Inspire] because of the “homey” feel it had…What [Inspire] does matters so much to those parents who feel helpless when they hear that their child has a disability.  We are just one family but there are countless families that [Inspire] has helped over the years and continues to help and, for that, I want to say thank you for all you do, from the bottom of my heart.” -Rita C., 2014

“My grandson attends the Golden Apple Preschool and also has services of PT, OT, and speech after school.  Since his start in September….I have had the pleasure to become well acquainted with [the Inspire] staff.  Their kindness and professionalism has made this experience enjoyable for my grandson as well as myself.  The dedication of the therapists, teachers, secretaries and the [teacher’s] aides is evident in all they do.  We are lucky to have Inspire and all its associates to service the people of this area.” -Anonymous, 2014

“I have only worked at Inspire for a couple years, but in my time working there I can tell you a few things: Inspire cares for its students and patients.  It amazes me every day as I see these children develop. The [teacher’s] aides have such a heart…they work hard to make sure that the students get all that they deserve.  Inspire is not only a place that has skills and programs to help it’s clients, but it also has a lot of heart.” -Anonymous, 2015
