“Where Kids Can be Kids”
The mission of Cub’s Place is to provide an activities and resource center for children and young adults who are coping with serious family illness or crisis.
The Vision of Cub’s Place is to reach out to children and young adults who are experiencing crisis. The crisis could be a medical problem with a family member, the on-going disruption of a family member with a chronic condition or serious illness, a military family dealing with deployment or recent unemployment.
The Goal of Cub’s Place is to provide a friendly, stress free environment where kids ages 4 – 10 can play and communicate with other children who are experiencing similar challenges. The children will be engaged in age-appropriate supervised games and activities in a warm and safe environment. The respite sessions will be held twice a month from 6 – 7:30 pm at the Inspire Kids Preschool in Newburgh.
Participation is free of charge.
“What can I do for you buddy?” Spiderman asked a young boy. “Can you make my daddy better?”, the child replied. Those simple words were the beginning of a plan to establish a place for children whose lives were in crisis.
While other children and adults were enjoying a carefree and happy vacation at Disney World, this young child was thinking about his father’s serious illness. Barbara and Harry Scherr recognized the need for a place that would provide peer support, activities and fun with trained volunteers in a loving and safe environment. The idea for Cub’s Place was born!
