Aquatic Therapy
Inspire’s physical therapists
and physical therapist assistants are fully trained in Aquatic Therapy.
Inspire has the largest therapeutic pool of its kind in Orange County,
New York. It is equipped with both stairs and a chair lift for easy
access. Handrails line the interior perimeter for stability while
exercising. Aquatic Therapy is ideal for patients who have difficulty
supporting their full body weight. The buoyancy of the water allows
more freedom of movement with minimal joint stress, making it ideal
for endurance training. The pool’s therapeutic temperature
of 95 degrees helps promote muscle relaxation and provides pain
relief while exercising.
Audiology
Inspire’s Audiology Department
is staffed by New York State licensed and American Speech-Language
and Hearing Association certified audiologists. The department is
dedicated to the early identification and treatment of hearing disorders
in infants, children, and adults. A broad range of diagnostic and
support services are provided, including: comprehensive hearing
evaluations, newborn hearing screenings including Otoacoustic Emissions
testing (OAE), hearing aid consultation and testing, and aural rehabilitation
for hearing loss and cochlear implants. Approximately 28 million
Americans experience some degree of hearing loss. The incidence
of hearing loss increases with age. Approximately 314 in 1,000 people
over the age of 65 have a hearing loss and 40 to 50 percent of people
75 and older have a hearing loss. Educational information on hearing
loss, hearing aids, and cochlear implants can be obtained from the
American
Academy of Audiology.
Community Swim
The Community Swim program is coordinated by the Physical
Therapy Department. This program allows the community access to
the therapeutic pool without the supervision of a physical therapist.
A person must complete an Inspire application and have an interview
with one of Inspire’s physical therapists before gaining entry
to this program.
